Imagine a patient-oriented internet platform that is free of disinformation and where the protection of personal health data is respected. Imagine what it might be like to receive the right information at the right moment, without even having to search for it. Our Health Program's Trusted Health Ecosystems project recently presented its vision for a national healthcare platform to around 100 stakeholders in the healthcare sector at the Berliner Freiheit event location.

The World Health Summit took place in Berlin from October 16 – 18, 2022. Marek Wallenfels, Director of the Bertelsmann Stiftung's Education and Next Generation program, discussed the topic of "Meaningful Youth Engagement with Global Health Governance" with leading representatives of the health sector during a panel discussion. Two youth organizations also presented their activities, which they are implementing in cooperation with the World Health Organisation (WHO): The WHO Youth Council and the Youth Pre World Health Assembly (Youth PreWHA).

A patient-centred approach to high-value care

In order to provide high-value care, the German healthcare system needs to better focus on patient value and on outcomes. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are an important tool for this, as international experts concluded at the conference “Patient-centricity and high-value care in a modern health system” in Berlin on November 22nd, 2023. In a policy paper, the PRO expert group consulting the Bertelsmann Stiftungs´s Health Programme calls for swift regulatory measures.

Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) have been developed to measure a patient’s subjectively perceived health status in an objective manner. PROMs have generated wide stakeholder interest globally, and several countries have implemented PROMs into their health systems to different degrees. Our study offers an international comparison of PRO-data use and elaborates on what Germany can learn from other countries.
